comment on a Noam Chomsky video (What we really want) where he talks about the efforts of advertising to control the mind and divert thought to trivial issues, as he wrote about in the book "Manufacturing Consent."
The public education system itself was designed to control people in the same way. To force children to sit motionless and silent for the majority of their day and only say what they are told to say when given permission to talk. This "Grade School System" was modeled on a system devised in East Prussia in the late nineteenth century. American businesses lamented the unsuitability of most people to factory work. Around 1890, Thomas Dewey and other educators went to East Prussia to examine the Grade School system and bring the ideas back to the USA, Prior to that, schooling in the USA was in one room school houses. The Grade School system was designed to turn you into a "robot" or mindless automaton, from its very inception.
