I think that we don't hear about it because our culture shuns suicide for theistic reasons. The victim of suicide is also the perpetrator and is therefore given no sympathy or empathy in death, as was likely the case in life. I also think that we are forced in this culture to do harm to others for our own survival. That is the heart of capitalism. People don't want to deal with the guilt and shame of the results of their neglect and even harm to those around them and suicide brings this into sharp focus.
