The numbers are astronomical and that is frightening. Here is how I calculated the answer. A gallon of gasoline weighs about 6.7 pounds and is almost completely long strings of Carbon atoms. When you burn a gallon of gasoline it removes 12 pounds of Oxygen from the atmosphere and replaces it with 19.2 pounds of Carbon Dioxide. (The numbers don't quite "add up", but check them yourself, I assume this is due to the molecular bonding physics and other subtle complexities). I assume the average miles per gallon is 19 - 20 miles per gallon. The best MPG numbers on the newest cars are almost 25 mile per gallon, but many cars are old and need the engine tuned. For simplicity of mathematics I assume around 19 miles per gallon, so the average results in "Every mile you drive puts One Pound of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere," Now you can see why the Carbon Dioxide content of the atmosphere has already increased measurably by about 20% (rough estimate) since one hundred years ago. We are dynamically changing the contents of the atmosphere at an unprecedented rate on the geological scale. When all the oil and coal is burned, the atmosphere will return to the Carbon content it has about 500,000 years ago in the age of dinosaurs and the climate will be a tropical hot house. Much of the planet will be too hot for humans to survive at all. And this could easily happen within the next two hundred years. Please check the research and mathematics yourself.

Why deride God?

What integral piece is missing in you that you feel the need to deride God and religion? Take a little time to self reflect. Maybe the answer will dawn upon you...


You cannot deride something that does not exist. The belief in "God" is delusion and I want to help humans free themselves from delusion so we all can live a more authentic and truthful life. I have thought about this for over forty years (I am 61 years old). I have studied religion , history, philosophy, and science in my quest. I have read over 3,000 non fiction books. I have read the entire bible except for Leviticus and the letters attributed to Paul. I have read most the central texts of most the other religions of the world, I have read most of the non-canonical Christian texts, I have read the Tao Te Ching, the I Ching. I look for truth. The more I think and study, the more it seems that a belief in Jehova, Yahweh, "God," or "The Lord" is unnecessary and intellectually harmful.

Scientific Proof of the existence of God

You want scientific proof? Like what? The big bang theory? Wheres your scientific proof of that?

YES.... I want a photo of God's face, or a video of God talking, or a reliable way that we can record his voice any time we want, or some other indisputable scientific method of measuring his presence and location that can be repeated by anyone at any time with the same procedure. Anything less is not proof, and then "God does not exist" It is my belief that most Americans have been trained to accept a fantasy in their grade school Christian Programming . Every time they are told to "think of God" as an adult they replay the delusional programming that they have been trained in because they are "good little boys and girls." They pretend to know something that is essentially not there and is really  only a fantasy or delusional thought.

Galileo and the proof of the existence of "God"

Response to a posting claiming that astronomy proves the existence of "God:"

as an aside to the main discussion here, it is sadly humorous that when Galileo advanced his theories of the Universe that are now routinely accepted as being true, there was less than five people in all of Europe that agreed with him. One of those men was burned alive by the Catholic church for his heretical belief in astronomy. That event inspired Galileo to recant his own discoveries before the Christian Church Inquisition in order to save his own life. As a result Galileo spent that last seventeen years of his life under house arrest, being thoroughly discredited for proposing ideas that we today think so trivial that they are a regular part of most grade school curriculum. I don't think "God" had anything to do with Galileo's discoveries and the discoveries certainly did not point to "God" at the time. The discoveries that we now take for granted almost killed Galileo, because the Christian Church interpreted "God's Message" differently than you today apparently do. Think about it.

-- sorry but this discussion is fruitless. I KNOW you have an emotional certainty of the existence of "God" and feel a personal relationship with this "God." However, a personal emotional certainty does not equal a proof that is admissible in a court of law, or a scientific journal. I am not interested in the strength of your emotional certainty. I am interested in legitimate FACTS that are admissible in a court of law testimony or a scientific journal paper. If you do not understand the difference, that cannot be helped, but the rest of the world requires legitimate proof before they accept your emotional certainty as universal truth.

Life is Tough and we are all broken

1. I got suspended from my job today because my supervisor is a bad communicator.

2. My pet bird laid an egg last night.  It was a total surprise.  Today the shell of the egg is cracked.  The egg is dead.

3. My girlfriend forgot to confirm an job appointment and now she may lose money unless I drive her to work on Monday morning.

4.  I was sick for two weeks with the Flu and Pneumonia and did not earn enough money to pay my rent this month.  My savings has almost run out.

5. My friend has back problems that will not heal.

6. My friend's car is broken and she cannot afford to fix it.

7. My friend broke two teeth and got them fixed, but it was unplanned and too expensive.

8. Tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of my fathers untimely death from cancer.

9. I have insomnia again.

THE DOCTRINE OF NO-SOUL: ANATTA

What in general is suggested by Soul, Self, Ego, or to use the Sanskrit expression Atman, is that in man there is a permanent, everlasting and absolute entity, which is the unchanging substance behind the changing phenomenal world.  According to some religions, each individual has such a separate soul which is created by God, and which, finally after death, lives eternally either in hell or heaven, its destiny depending on the judgment of its creator.  According to others, it goes through many lives till it is completely purified and becomes finally united with God or Brahman, Universal Soul of Atman, from which it originally emanated.  This soul or self in man is the thinker of thoughts, feeler of sensations, and receiver of rewards and punishments for all its actions good and bad.  Such a conception is called the idea of self.

Buddhism stands unique in the history of human thought in denying the existence of such a Soul, Self, or Atman.  According to the teaching of the Buddha, the idea of self is imaginary, false belief which has no corresponding reality, and it produces harmful thoughts of ‘me’ and ‘mine’, selfish desire, craving, attachment, hatred, ill-will, conceit, pride, egoism, and other defilements, impurities, and problems.  It is the source of all the troubles in the world from personal conflicts to wars between nations.  In short, to this false view can be traced all the evil in the world.

Two ideas are psychologically deep-rooted in man: self-protection and self-preservation.  For self-protection man has created God, on whom he depends for his own protection, safety and security, just as a child depends on its parent.  For self-preservation man has conceived the idea of an immortal Soul or Atman, which will live eternally.  In his ignorance, weakness, fear, and desire, man needs these two things to console himself.  Hence he clings to them deeply and fanatically.

The Buddha’s teaching does not support this ignorance, weakness, fear, and desire, but aims at making man enlightened by removing and destroying them, striking at their very root.  According to Buddhism, our ideas of God and Soul are false and empty.  Though highly developed as theories, they are all the same extremely subtle mental projections, garbled in an intricate metaphysical and philosophical phraseology.  These ideas are so deep-rooted in man, and so near and dear to him, that he does not wish to hear, nor does he want to understand, any teaching against them.

The Buddha knew this quite well.  In fact he said that his teaching was ‘against the current’ (patisotagami), against man’s selfish desires…

Christian Church Crimes Against Humanity, part 3 Burning of the Ebionites

In 66 A.D. Israel was an occupied territory of the Roman Empire, and the entire country erupted in rebellion against Roman Rule.  This revolution had been planned and the year 66 was chosen because it had special numerical significance to the Jewish Leaders.  As confirmation of this idea, the NEXT revolution against Rome occurred in 132 AD, exactly 66 years later.  Simon Bar Kokhba was the leader of this second failed revolt.  As a consequence EVERY single tree in Israel was cut down and every single book in Israel was burned,   This is one reason why knowledge of the times is limited. 

After the first rebellion in 66 AD the  history of the Jewish People and the history of the Jewish Rebellion was documented by Josephus.  Josephus was a Jewish leader that was captured by the Romans and became an adviser or camp prisoner.  After the war, Josephus was hired by the Emperor of Rome to document the history of the rebellion.

In 70 A.D. Jerusalem fell to the Roman army and it was destroyed.  The temple was destroyed and that was the end of the Jewish Religion and Jewish Priests.  There is no Jewish Priest class, or Jewish Priests, to this day.

Prior to the commencement of the Rebellion against Rome in 66 A.D. there were two groups that left Jerusalem to avoid the war: 1) the Zealots, 2) the Ebionites.

The Zealots were a Jewish Revolutionary group that only attacked fellows Jews.  Judas Iscariot is a famous example from history. A splinter group of Zealots, called Sicarii, would target a Jewish citizen who they opposed and then kill them in the town square by surrounding them and knifing them to death.  The knives were called "sicae".   Judas Iscariot got his name from the group Sicari.  In 66 A.D. the Zealots left Jerusalem and went to Masada, which was an impregnable fortress in the desert.  In 70 A.D. they were surrounded by the Roman army and according to their group vows they all committed suicide instead of being captured by the Romans.  When the Roman army finally breached the summit of Masada it was strangely quiet and all the defenders were dead.

The Ebionites were the early Christians.  They were the people that knew and followed Jesus.  They were the friends and family members of Jesus and his brothers.  they were the first followers of Jesus, having listened to his sermons and and lived according to his philosophy.   The Ebionites left Jerusalem in 66 A.D. and established a community in Damascus Syria.

James the Just was the brother of Jesus and a Priest in the temple.  Josephus refers to him a number of times and curiously he is mentioned more times in the works of Josephus that Jesus himself is.  James the Just was the leader of the Ebionites and the early Christian church.  In 64 A.D James the Just was murdered by a Roman Agent who then fled back to Rome.  Some people speculate that this murder was responsible for the Jewish Rebellion n 66 A. D.

Nevertheless, after the war was over, the Zealots were dead, Jerusalem was destroyed, the Temple itself was destroyed and the Ebionites were living in Damascus, Syria.  It is possible that this is why Apostle Paul was on the road to Damascus when he had his vision.

Judas Thomas, the brother and follower of Jesus, lived in Damascus before he left on missionary work to India, where he established a Christian church before he died.

Now here  is the incredible part of the story:  In 321 A.D. Emperor Constantine made Christianity the State Religion of Rome.  He authorized the Apostles Creed and sanctified the Christian hierarchy of Popes and Bishops.  It is curious to note that ALL the offices of the Christian Church were given the exact same name as the same offices in the previous State Religion of Rome.

They the Christian Church began persecuting heresy and alternative philosophical interpretations of the "Christian Message."  It was at this time the Apostles Creed was formulated.

At some time after this, the Ebionites became a target of the new official Christian Church.  The descendants of the friends and family members of Jesus themselves became accused of Heresy and "non-Christian" beliefs.

As a consequence of this persecution,  the Ebionites were all killed -- they were burned alive in their own churches by the Roman Army.  The Ebionitie community ceased to exist.  All their writings and books disappeared into the fires of history and they were no more.

Here is the unbelievable fact of history -- The Christian Church itself murdered the descendants of the friends and family members who actually knew Jesus.  The Christian Church burned them alive in their own Churches.  This has to be one of the great crimes against humanity in the history of the human race and it was sponsored by the Christian Church.  Praise Jesus.

Christian Church Crimes against Humanity, part 2 Burning Witches Alive

After the Christian Church gained control of the Roman Empire around 600 A.D., it began promoting a new form of public entertainment – burning Witches at the stake.  The process went something like this:   A vulnerable woman was targeted by the Christian Priests.   She was frequently old, infirm, and living alone on the outskirts of society.  These women were brought before a tribunal of Priests and Bishops and were “put on trial” for Witchcraft.   Because they were old, defenseless women, they had no defenders and were always sentenced to the worst possible punishment: Being Burned Alive at the Stake as a public spectacle.

At the appointed time, the entire town would gather in the public square to watch.   A large wooden pole was driven into the ground, and dry kindling for a fire was arranged at the base of the pole.  Then, when the whole town had assembled, the woman was led to the pole and tied to the pole.  Armed guards ensured that she did not escape.

The Priest then said some fine sounding words, accusing the woman of Witchcraft and blessing her soul.  Then the fire was lit. The old woman shrieked and screamed in pain, and was eventually burned to death in one of the most horrible spectacles in the history of mankind.  The audience looked on passively, ignoring the woman cries for mercy. She must have cried in absolute mortal terror and unbelievable pain.  Eventually the old woman stopped screaming and then she died, burned alive.

This horrific spectacle was repeated countless number of times across Europe and tens of thousands of women were brutally killed by the Christian church in this manner for at least six hundred years.  Six hundred years of horrific terror at the hands of Christian Priests and bishops.  

It was only the advent of the Bubonic Plague in 1347 A.D. that put an end to this practice.  At that time, the Christian Priests and the Christian prayer proved to be absolutely useless in the face of the Black Death.  Almost one quarter of the entire population of Europe died of the plague and society was changed forever.  The Christian Church lost its supposed moral authority and people began openly mocking the Clergy and the rites.  The population lost its enthusiasm for watching old women being tortured to death and the practice of burning Witches at the stake ceased to exist.  Praise Jesus.

Christian Church Crimes Against Humanity

It is a shocking and absolutely true fact that -- After the Christian Church obtained political control of the Roman Empire, The Christian Church closed every University of higher learning and they closed every library. And THEN the Church sponsored a book burning policy where --  over the next two centuries - EVERY SINGLE BOOK IN THE ENTIRE ROMAN EMPIRE WAS DESTROYED.

The ONLY books, or writings, for either the Greek or the Roman Empire that survived to this day, were preserved OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARY of the Roman Empire.   It was the enemies and allies of Rome that preserved her literature, books, culture, and spirit, because The Christian Church tried to destroy it all.

The Spirit of Born Again Christianity

    What you do not understand about born again Christians is that they just want to go to Heaven. They are only interested in the "perfection" of Heaven. They assume that this world (the Earth) is hopelessly corrupt and polluted with demonic evil. They do not care about this planet Earth because they already "know" that they are going to Heaven for all Eternity and live in the Glory and Splendor of Jesus and God and the Holy Spirit. They ask themselves, " Why should Holy, God-Minded people be the least concerned about an Earth that is hopelessly polluted with EVIL, when we will spend Eternity in Heaven???"

    Most of the rest of us practical science minded people just cannot understand that mindset that negates all of Earth and all life itself as hopelessly corrupt and polluted with EVIL. ..

    Also, at least 40% of the entire population of the UNITED STATES shares this fatalistic concept of life. It is useless to try and reason with them or talk with them rationally. They are just not interested. They are not interested in even seeing that you exist, much less trying to respect you, listen to you, or patiently consider your opinion. You are the Earthly personification of EVIL, corruption, pollution, and vile disgusting spiritual filth. They automatically condemn you for your very existence because you, yourself (albeit unknowingly) are the vile scum of all eternity and are destined for destruction and annihilation in the lowest pits of Hell. They have nothing but contempt and hatred for your very existence.

    THIS IS THEIR SPIRITUALITY. THIS IS THE DOOM OF USA AMERICA. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT WILL COMMENCE WORLD WAR THREE.

Homelessness and Personal Responsibility

The excuse of "personal responsibility" is just a reason to "let people die homeless in the streets" and it is an example of willful "personal blindness".   Most homeless have experienced severe personal trauma and have never recovered, or cannot ever recover (as in physical injury).  Nobody helped them when they needed help.   Evidence: In the 1980's most all the homeless were Vietnam Veterans. Their lives were so destroyed by WAR, that they could not adapt back into society and they died in the streets. Nobody helped them and nobody cared. It was NOT their fault. (Aside: More Vietnam Veterans have died by suicide than actually were killed in the war. There was nobody to help them either,and nobody cared. ) Your callous and cold-hearted appraisal shows your own lack of awareness and lack of genuine human concern. Sorry.

Real Experience and money

YES and. the funny thing is that the most rewarding, enriching, fulfilling, and joyful experiences rarely concern money: seeing a beautiful sunset, performing a skill perfectly "in tune", falling in love, seeing an old friend after many years, playing with a puppy, hearing a beautiful song, helping a friend in need, eating a delicious meal when you are really hungry, or the self satisfaction that no matter what, you really tried to do your best. People seem to use money and "buying things" as a substitute for real experience.
